In the heart of our county seat stands an imposing remnant of the Art Deco era. The Vinton County Courthouse is located at the intersection of Main and Market streets in McArthur, Ohio. It  dates back to 1937.  It was built with federal money as a WPA project on the same site as the original courthouse which was destroyed by fire.

This square building has a façade of locally manufactured brick and an art deco flair. The lobby features an original light fixture and decorative tile around the state seal in the floor.  Other highlights include bas reliefs in the lobby, metal studded doors and an impressive inlaid wood bench in the courtroom.

While visiting the courthouse, be sure to notice the Soldier’s Memorial statue outside the front doors. The statue of a Union soldier dates back to 1914.

The courthouse is open Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., except on government holidays.
